National/Regional Camp and Staff Cadet Applications 2019

Cadets wishing to apply for a National/Regional/Intermediate or Advanced Music camp or Staff Cadet position, please see the following to make sure you are eligible, then click the link to complete the form. Note that there are paperwork requirements that are explained below.

Exams & Interviews

Applicants for National/Regional Camps MUST participate in an interview (Date and time TBA). Power and Glider candidates will also write a qualifying exam. Please mark this in your calendars NOW.

Paperwork

The following MUST be submitted to the AdmO later than 28 Nov 2018. Applications without the paperwork WILL NOT be considered.

Read Carefully!

All Applicants for National/Regional/Music camp (not Staff Cadet) must submit:

  • a full set of School transcripts showing your marks over the last full school year – Grade 9’s may use School transcript, Grade 10 and above must provide Department of Education transcript.
  • a 1 page personal narrative, typed, dated and signed explaining why you want the camp. Provide a separate narrative for each camp applied for,
  • Copy of participation application – this is not yet available and will be given to the applicants once we have it.

International Exchange applicants must submit:

  • International Cadet Exchange Information form, in triplicate with a passport photo glued in place on each form, Download Form
  • photocopy of page 3 of a current passport: Must be included with the application. Passport should be valid for more than 6 months  past the end of August 2019. If the candidate has not received his passport, a photocopy of the birth certificate or citizenship card must be included with the application,
  • Joint letter of recommendation by CO and Sponsoring Committee Chair – request from AdmO.

Power and Glider Scholarship applicants must provide a copy of a valid Transport Canada Cat 3 Medical Certificate OR a Doctor’s name, date & time for an appointment with a Transport Canada approved doctor for Cat 3 Transport Canada Medical Certificate. The appointment should be booked for a time between Feb 6 and 29. An examiner can be found at:

Cadets who have particular medical conditions must make an appointment and pass their medical examination as soon as possible in November, since the review by Transport Canada may take much longer than usual.

A copy of both sides of the medical certificate must be provided to the AdminO as soon as it is received.

– Power Scholarship applicants must submit a completed CATO 54-26, Annex B – Power  cato-54-27-annex-b

– Glider Scholarship applicants must submit a completed CATO 54-26, Annex B – Glider  cato-54-26-annex-b

First time Staff cadet applicants must submit
– a direct deposit form ( CDT130-cadet) with a void cheque or bank issued deposit information sheet, or a bank issued direct deposit form for the account that pay will be deposited into,
– photocopy of Social Insurance Card

Repeat Staff cadet applicants – no additional forms at this time.

Courses

Minimum requirements are shown below each course)

International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE)

  • 2-3 weeks in duration depending on the country visited,
  • Only one cadet per squadron can be submitted,
  • Minimum age of 17 years old by August 1st of the year the exchange is held,
  • Level five successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Be medically fit to participate,
  • CF Qualifying interview must be passed,
  • Official IACE clothing: All Air cadets participating in the IACE program will be required to purchase the official IACE clothing package. The ACL National Headquarters will forward purchase details to selected cadets. This expense may be offset by the Squadron Sponsoring Committee but a decision has not yet been made.
  • Cost to cadet – approx $700 – Purchase of official clothing and spending money

Power Pilot Scholarship (PPS)

  • Minimum age is 17 years old by September 1st of the year the course is taken,
  • Level four successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Grade 10 or equivalent completed by nomination deadline
  • CF Qualifying Exam and interview must be passed,
  • Must obtain a valid category 3 medical certificate from transport Canada at cadet’s expense,
  • The maximum weight (in cadet PT gear, no shoes/boots, socks only) for a student pilot is 111.13 kg (245 lbs),
  • Be medically fit to participate,
  • Cost to cadet to achieve license – approx. $400 – pilot licence, Transport Canada examinations, training manual
  • Must be participating in the Squadron Senior Ground School classes

Glider Pilot Scholarship (GPS)

  • Minimum age is 16 years old by September 1st of the year the course is taken,
  • Level three successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Grade 9 or equivalent completed by nomination deadline
  • CF Qualifying Exam and interview must be passed,
  • Must obtain a valid category 3 medical certificate from transport Canada at cadet’s expense
  • The physical limitations for height and weight (in cadet PT gear, no shoes/boots, socks only) are: minimum: height 152.4 cm, weight 40.82 kg, and maximum: height 190.5 cm, weight 90.72 kg,
  • Be medically fit to participate,
  • Cost to cadet to achieve license – approx. $200 – pilot licence, Transport Canada examinations, training manual.
  • Must be participating in the Squadron Senior Ground School classes

Advanced Aviation Technology Course – Airport Operations (AATC-AO)

  • 6 weeks, level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Be medically fit to participate.

Advanced Aviation Technology Course – Aircraft Maintenance (AATC-AM)

  • 6 weeks, level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Be medically fit to participate.

Advanced Aerospace Course (AASC)

  • 6 weeks, level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Be medically fit to participate

Note: A cadet may apply for only one of IACE, PPS and GPS.
In addition to the choice above, a cadet may also apply for one or two courses amongst the AATC-AO, AATC-AM, or AASC.

Staff Cadets

  • Staff cadets may not be less than 16 years of age as of the first day of January 2017.

Military Music – Intermediate Musician

  • 6 weeks
  • hold  a Cadet Basic Music Level
  • Level 3 successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Be medically fit to participate

Military Music – Advanced Musician

  • 6 weeks
  • Hold a Cadet Level 2 Music Level
  • Level 4 successfully completed by the end of the current training year,
  • Be medically fit to participate
