Drill team is open to all cadets regardless of their level of experience and meets on Tuesday evenings. New cadets can expect to learn basic drill movements, such as standing at attention and standing at ease, along with more advanced movements, such as turns on the march. Cadets are able to compete internally in  two teams (depending on the number of cadets) and are taught one of two routines, depending on their knowledge of drill. One team is cadets who learn a sequence of movements with their commander calling the commands. The second team  learns a sequence of memorized drill movements (no commands are called during this sequence). Both teams compete each year at the regional drill competition against other Squadrons in the Ottawa area.

872 also has a developmental team, that is generally ran from October to mid-January, for new cadets wanting to further develop their drill skills. The developmental team does not compete in any competitions, however may be selected for one of the two teams that compete regionally.

Normal dress is appropriate civilian attire with cadet boots unless told to wear your uniform.
