National Effective Speaking Competition 2012
1. The National Effective Speaking Competition is held locally at each Air Cadet Squadrons in Canada.
The winners of each squadron then competition compete at an area competition,
then at a regional and then at a National Air Cadet Competition.
2. The Squadron competition will be held here at AY Jackson HS on 22 Feb 12.
3. Open to all Air Cadets who have not aged out up to and including the day of return to unit from
the National Effective Speaking Competition, to be held in May 12.
4. The competition has two parts: a prepared speech and an impromptu speech.
The allotted times for speeches are:
a. Prepared: Not less than five (5) minutes or more than six (6) minutes
b. Impromptu: Not less than two (2) minutes or more than three (3) minutes
5. A timekeeper using time cards is to indicate the amount of time remaining in a
speech as follows:
a. Prepared Speech:
i. 1 minute, after five (5) minutes into the speech;
ii. 30 seconds, after five (5) minutes thirty (30) seconds into the speech; and
iii. Time Elapsed, after six (6) minutes into the speech.
b. Impromptu Speech:
i. 1 minute, after two (2) minutes into the speech;
ii. 30 seconds, after two (2) minutes thirty (30) seconds into the speech; and
iii. Time Elapsed, after three (3) minutes into the speech.
6. Dress for the competition is Winter dress with ribbons.
7. A sign-up sheet will be available for the competition on Wed 14 Feb.

Note: The same speech can be used at the area, regional and national
competitions and can be improved / modified over time.
